The ride details

A Scenic 50km Loop for Intermediate Riders

This intermediate-level 50km loop offers a taste of the stunning landscapes and charming towns in our area. It’s a perfect introduction to the beauty and diversity of the Sierra Nevada.

Route Overview

The loop takes you around the Presa Rules Reservoir, follows the Guadalfeo River to Órgiva, and climbs to Lanjarón, the highest point, before descending back to Vélez de Benaudalla. It’s a mix of climbing, scenic views, and thrilling descents.

The Climb: Vélez to Órgiva

Starting from the Cycle Sierra Nevada shop in Vélez de Benaudalla, the ride begins with a climb towards the Alpujarran mountain range. After a 2km rollout, a 5km climb skirts the Sierra Lújar mountain. At 13km, you’ll reach the 7 Eye Bridge, where you turn left and climb 2km towards Órgiva. After passing through the town, a steady 5km climb awaits.

Lanjarón: The Town of Eternal Youth

Lanjarón, recognized by the World Health Organization for having the highest life expectancy in the world, is a highlight of the ride. The town’s pure mountain air, Mediterranean diet, and quality water contribute to its longevity. Refill your bottles at the fountain at the first left turn (26.5km into the ride) and enjoy a coffee at one of the local bars or restaurants.

The Descent: Lanjarón to Vélez de Benaudalla

After soaking in Lanjarón’s charm, it’s all downhill. The descent is split into three sections:

  • A fast, flowing start with sweeping corners.

  • A tight, twisting middle section requiring focus.

  • A straight, steep, and speedy finale—perfect for setting a new personal speed record if the wind is in your favor.
